When it comes to air compressors and the air requirement of the application, it's all about CFM (cubic feet per minute) or l/pm (liters per minute) and less about the tank size.

1 hp is required to support one (1) chair or operatory.

A 2.0 Hp Dental air compressor is required to support two (2) chairs or operatory users.

A 4.0 Hp unit is required to support 3-4 chairs or operatory users.

Both standard 80% DRY AIR and 98% DRY AIR (ISO 8573  3-2-1) air compressor models are available.

Select models feature a Sound Proof Cabinet which lowers decibel noise levels by an additional 10 dBA on average.

TECHNICAL NOTES:

1 hp is required to support each chair/operatory (i.e. 4 chairs/operatories would require a 4 hp model).

*To efficiently operate (1) each Dental Milling Machine continuously a 4.0 HP model is required.

For Dental Milling Machines, which often run continuously, it is strongly suggested to verify and satisfy maximum operating CFM air requirement ratings as follows:

10020xx Series Models - MAXIMUM 2.5 CFM CONTINUOUS!

20040xxxx & 60040xxxx Series Models - MAXIMUM 5.2 CFM CONTINUOUS!

----------------------------------

All 1 hp and 2 hp motor/pumps have a 3000-hour usable life before wear or service. Noise levels are ~60 dBA or ~70 dBA respectively; 4 hp models have a noise level of ~75 dBA. Items enclosed in a Sound Proof Cabinet (SPC) typically afford ~10-12 dBA noise level reduction. Items with the LF designation use the Long Life 4000-hour motor-pump. Motor-pumps are rebuildable and motor-pumps can be easily replaced.

The size of the tank (10 Gal vs. 20 Gal vs. 60 Gal) primarily impacts how often the motor/pump assembly kicks on; ensure you select a unit with enough horsepower to meet CFM air requirements. If you want the motor-pump to cycle less, then choose the largest tank size available.

If you plan on using an air tool or machine on a continuous basis, it is a good idea to multiply the “CFM” x 2 to get a continuous CFM rating for the tool or machine.

Most air tools and machines are rated for intermediate usage (not continuous). Always consult the air tool or machine manufacturer for the correct CFM requirement.
